Music and XM satellite radio lovers rejoice! Now you can enjoy the best radio experience on the planet (XM programming of course) in your home from a component-style tuner that delivers 100% of XM's potential sound quality. The Polk Audio XRt12 tuner is the first component XM tuner and it is the performance reference standard for all XM tuners.
The Polk XRt12 Simply Sounds Better
Yes there are other ways to get XM radio to play through your home audio system, but only the Polk Reference XM tuner brings out the best sonic performance from XM radio. Polk uses premium digital and analog components and superior construction techniques to bring you the highest possible audio performance allowed by XM's digital standard.
This is why the Polk tuner sounds better than a Plug n' Play XM tuner plugged into a Home Base adaptor: The digital bits and bytes of satellite radio must be converted to an analog signal (the kind of sound you can hear) by a DAC (digital to analog converter) and there is a large difference in fidelity between DACs. The Polk reference tuner uses a Burr-Brown DAC, widely regarded as the best sounding DAC and the one used in countless high-end digital surround processors. Next, the analog output from the DAC has to be amplified up a to a voltage level that your receiver or preamp can use. Plug n' Play XM tuner units use headphone amplifiers as preamps. These simple inexpensive devices introduce noise and distortion into the system. The XRt12 uses a true high fidelity preamplifier circuit board that is dead quiet, low in distortion and wide range. Additionally, Plug N Play tuners don't have as much gain as typical audio sources so the volume changes as you switch from say DVD to XM. That just won't happen with the Polk XM Reference Tuner. In fact you can adjust the XRt12's analog output to match the gain of the other sources in your system. Each major function (power supply, display, outputs, preamp and tuner) of the XRt12 are on physically separate circuit boards to minimize interference and noise.
The XRt12 also offers direct digital outputs (both optical and coaxial) so you can plug it directly into any receiver or processor equipped with digital inputs. You'll enjoy the ultra low noise and distortion benefits of pure digital sound and be able to take advantage of the Digital Signal Processing features of your surround receiver or processor. If and when XM starts broadcasting in surround format (technically feasible), your Polk XRt12 will be ready to send digital surround signal to your multi-channel system for the ultimate radio listening experience.
Set it up once and the XRt12 is ready to serve up true high fidelity XM programming in your home anytime you want to hear your favorite XM programming. You no longer have to remember to take your plug n' play XM tuner out of the car and hook it up to a kluge home adapter. Its component-standard 17-inch wide chassis looks right at home among your cherished audio gear.
Because the XRt12 has a video output you can view all of the standard XM information on your TV: channel number, name, artist name and song title are right there on your TV screen in all their big, easy-to-read-from-across-the-room glory. No more squinting and running up to the teeny weenie little display to see who is performing that awesome song. And when you hear something new and cool and you want to remember the artist and song you don't even have to find pen and paper-just hit the Memory button on the front panel and the XRt12 will record up to 10 records of channel, artist and song data for later retrieval.
The Polk XRt12 comes with everything you need to enjoy XM radio the day you bring it home - a high gain XM antenna with 20 foot cable (an optional 50 extension is available), a digital optical cable and a 3 cord RCA-type analog audio/video cable are all included in the carton. Hooking up is a snap. It features both Optical and Coaxial digital outputs for easy connection to surround receivers and processors. If XM goes multi-channel-you'll be ready! The XRt12 also features standard RCA jack analog stereo outputs so you can hook it up to ANY stereo receiver or amp.
