Once your portable kit arrives, you will need to fully charge the battery pack.
To use with your Roady, simply slide the Roady down onto the notched plate. Plug in the power, antenna and headphone leads and you are ready to enjoy XM anywhere!
IMPORTANT NOTES ON XM SIGNAL RECEPTION WITH THE PORTABLE KIT:
Reception overall is good, but you must be aware of the following:
The portable kit uses the new micro XM antenna mounted on your waist, reception of the XM signal will likely not be as good as it is with the antenna mounted on your car's roof, or stationary in your home/office. Also, as with any XM antenna, this antenna application also needs a view of the southern sky to work in areas without ground repeaters.
Since the antenna is placed on a belt on the body, it is obvious that when walking around in areas without ground repeaters, the body will block the signal from time-to-time. As you know, the 2 satellites are elevated anywhere from 30-60 degrees above the horizon, generally to your south. If your body blocks the signal when wearing the portable kit on your waist, you may need to spin the belt to either your front, or your back, depending on your direction of travel so the antenna has a better view of the satellites. The entire Portable Kit will slide freely around your waist if needed to adjust the antenna position for best reception. To increase the possibility of receiving a good strong signal in areas without ground repeaters, you can wear the Portable Kit over the shoulder.
Reception in areas with ground repeaters is perfect, no matter the position of the antenna.
